Thanks Bobby for being the contact person on this!
I think we can do a lot with an 8lb swag block and a 100lb anvil. While a cone mandrel would be nice, I really think another anvil (or stake anvil) would be better suited for classes if we have numbers similar to the cutting board classes.
Also, maybe we hang a sign in the blacksmith area along the lines of “This space made possible Holland Anvil” as a sponsor? just a thought
Everyone that want to input look at Holland Anvil’s website https://www.hollandanvil.com/ look at the catalog and list item that you would like from Holland Anvil. I will compile the list and submit it to Holland Anvil. I have given them of some of item. It would be better to have list of specific products.
The following was sent Greg Hagen of owner of Holland Anvil
Greg,
What we’d like to see from Holland:

OR
(1) 100lb double horn anvil
(1) 46lb stake anvil
(1) 8lb swage block
Bobby, sorry for the delay. We would be happy to supply you with a few different swage blocks. The anvils are hard for us to move on price with, but we would happily include delivery to Lansing 100lb is $775 46lb stake is $450 Thanks, Hobie
That’s good to hear about the swage blocks! I’ll try to start fundraising some money to eventually get an anvil. Thanks for being the contact person on this
When we decided on the anvils we could consider a road trip to Holland Anvil and pick up.
The the time I went to pickup my 260# double horn was give a tour of the space where they were made.
Honestly, while it would be nice to have a larger anvil in the future, I just helped a blacksmith friend in Charlevoix mount a new model 65 lber Doyle from Harbor Freight that has a surprisingly good ring and rebound. At $150, it seems like a better place to start until the blacksmith area is more sustainable. Thoughts?
I have watched YouTube reviews of the Harbor Freight and Vevor anvils and both function well enough for most tasks. I am not against them. However if can support American made and in Michigan I like to support them if possible.
It would be good to have a selection of anvils that one could use and see the difference and make a decision based on their needs. That’s how I would see some place like LMN have a variety of equipment to use
It will be ready for us to bring over there some evening next week. Are there any good days for you that would work next week?
So if anyone of the Lansing Makers Network blacksmithing or anyone interested in meeting and help off load. Let me know of a time during open hours. I will ask Greg to come during that time agreed apon
