Thanks to @bjadms8 we have the materials to start running a rose making class again, and the next step is a practice run.
Anyone want to come learn how to make a rose some time in the near future? I’m expecting it to take ~2ish hours, though that could be wrong (finding out is what the practice class is for). No blacksmithing experience necessary - in fact, the less the better!
Okay, looks like the 2 times people the most are free are Mon 17 and Sat 21, and I’d rather have a few days off between how 2 holiday and hook class, so let’s do Saturday Feb 22 9AM-11AM!
If you want to chip in $10 to cover the cost of the materials it’s much appreciated, but no worries if you can’t.
Thanks for the heads up Maria. I will plan to be there.
On another subject, I wonder if you might think of a follow-up class to your current bead making class. I am interested in developing curriculums at LMN.
Re. more glass classes - I’ve got few different partially-formed ideas kicking around:
stringers and twists (learn to make stringers and multi-colored glass twisted together, then use them in beads)
marbles or other little statues made off marver, to learn to do transfers
fused glass using the kiln - folks who have broken beads from the bead class could also bring those in to use
collaboration w/ jewelry - make glass cabochons then set them (could also have people who’ve had beads break into hemispheres bring those in and polish and set them)
glass roses - more advanced and we’d need more flat pliers
metal work for glassworkers - teaching people to make the metal tools that we use for flameworking (mandrels, bead rakes, grooved marvers) - I’m taking a foundry work class in early April, hoping that will get me to a place where I can cast aluminum marvers and teach others to do it
flamework blown glass - this i’m still working on learning to do well enough to teach it
Editing to add: I’d really love to do something with enamel - particularly on steel, so we could do it on blacksmithing projects like the roses - but I need to learn a lot more about doing it myself first!
