Woodshop issue with horizontal belt sander

The horizontal sander belt broke today. When I went looking for the tool that releases tension on the sander, it was not found. I was last saw and left it, was screwed into the belt hub. its a 8-12" rod with a ball on the end, If you moved it put it back. I tried to make due without it but can’t get the belt on with tension. will work on it tomorrow.

Just checked on the horizontal belt sander and it looks to be working again. Just want to confirm, was it fixed and now okay for members to use?

I found this on one of the tool shelves. Is this the missing tension release tool?

James, I saw the piece that Jeff found, but it looks like the threads on it and on the place if attaches to the sander are both chewed up. It needs to be cleaned up with a tap and die, I think.

It’s also gone missing again. Did you move it? I didn’t see it there yesterday.

The tension lever is in place, and the sander works. Watch the tracking on the belt when you first start the machine, though. We had to adjust it several times to get it tracking well.
