What have you all been making?!

Finally finished the knock-down wheelbarrow that’s been in the wood shop for the past couple months.

I think some of you have seen these in various stages this year, but I finally finished my second pair of skis. I l really like how the laser engraved veneer turned out:

I’ve been working on a frame-style pit saw and the sawhorses to use it, based on the work on André Roubo’s 1769 illustrations. A pit saw was used to cut planks and boards out of either logs or beams (by hand) if a sawmill wasn’t handy. The other secondary source illustrations are from “Museum of Early American Tools” (which we have a copy of in the break room). The saw itself has been done for a couple months, but now I’m tackling the two sawhorses. When done, this will be a major component of my historic carpentry demos.

I finally finished the desk I’ve been working on for the past few years. I started this in 2019, with the idea that it would replace the desk in my office at work. And so it has.

The wood is entirely reclaimed. The darker wood is from a mahogany table that a woodworker sold me a while back. The table was worn and cracking. The lighter wood is maple from an old crib. I’m very happy with it. It’s just missing some drawer pulls, but otherwise, it’s the writing desk of my dreams.

It’s just beautiful…warm & inviting! Love how you turned old, worn & outdated pieces into a modern, yet timeless desk.

I made a couple 18th century walking sticks (as I do) with faux ivory heads (resin), turned brass collars and tips, with one in cherry and the other in a faux tortoise shell

Just walking sticks, or can they be used for la Canne?

I did a pair of floor lamps, mainly because I wanted to use the CNC rotary axis for a larger project. I had seen similar designs with repeating spheres, but I threw in some cubes to make it obvious that they weren’t made on a lathe. I opted not to sand them smooth because the machining marks made some really interesting patterns (definitely not because I hate sanding). I think they came out great.

Can you share your settings/technique for this engraving? I am looking to do something similar.

I can straight up send you the LightBurn file if you’d like. DM me your email and I’ll send it your way.

I finally got tired of the pile of saws and planes and decided to make a few French cleats to hold some of the stuff.
