Discussions continue about what’s needed in the new building and how you can help, but now it’s October and we expect you to wear a costume! (jk, costumes are optional)

So at the last town hall we discussed if we should keep having town halls.

Pros:

  • A standing meeting time is nice to have to communicate
  • It’s a way for new members to reach out and talk to someone

Cons:

  • Attendance is slowing
  • With the space open again communicating in person is easier.
  • With the major logistics of the move and fundraiser behind us there is less to cover.

I’m open to other thoughts, other modes, etc.

We’ve also covered the need to start having regular “staff meetings” for the core team to stay on top of things. Not sure what form that will take.

No worries, Andy! We are taking a break from the weekly town hall next week and looking to try less frequent town halls in a more traditional town hall fashion.

Here are the updates I noted from last night’s meeting:

  • The networking is almost done
  • The landlord has moved lots out but still has some items remaining
  • Let’s be on the lookout for an air compressor and (if affordable) used mobile stair unit
  • The dishwasher is fixed
  • We received a couple of proposals from Liz for a restroom remodel (@brian.adams has pics)
  • We’re aiming to resume classes at the end of October
  • If you know someone who’d like to volunteer, send them to our Volunteer Opportunities page
  • We’d like to host an open house at the new space, tentatively in January
  • Let’s start planning the How-to Holiday now. Here are some details from the last one:
    • Fundraising committee can start the planning and recruit volunteers (it’ll meet soon)
    • $15 chips/tokens for sale before event, $20 chips/tokens at the event
    • Offer a member discount to folks who sign-up at the event
    • This is our next big event/fundraiser push
  • No town hall next Monday (Oct. 11)
