Specs for the laser cut

Hello,
I would like to know the specs on the laser cutter: Make & Model number and any mods done to the machine.

Thanks for the info.

We’ve got a fairly generic Chinese-made machine. Bed size is 700mm wide by 500mm deep, and it is red. We replaced the original 60W laser tube (and they were stretching it) with a real 80W tube from a reputable laser monger, which still seems to be running well. It’s a CO2 laser, which cuts wood (and paper, cardboard, etc.) and acrylic (Plexiglass) very well. Many other materials cannot be cut at all, either because they’re toxic, or just won’t cut well. Our SOP book spells out what you can and cannot cut.

The software that runs it is RD Works. It’s very capable, but the language used in the interface is sometimes confusing, to say the least. It was created by people who speak English as a seventh language.

If you want to learn all about laser cutters, you could do worse than to have a look at YouTube channel “SarbarMultimedia”. Go back about 400 videos, and start moving through them. (I’m half kidding here. He has many many videos with much more detail than you might need.)

As with the CNC, if you want a laser cutter checkout, ask for it here, and you’ll get it.
