It’s been a busy couple of months in the maker space, and we have some exciting news to share.
New Leadership Committee
We are pleased to announce a brand new Leadership Committee! After 11 years of hard work, our long-time President and founder Brian Adams is stepping down from the role of Executive Director to spend more time making, building, and having fun in the space as a member. To cover the work the President was responsible for, we are putting in place a 4-member committee that will work together to lead the space’s operational efforts. In the first iteration of this committee, we are staffing it with current board members for at least 6 months, but we hope to turn this leadership over to non-board members as soon as is reasonably possible.
Inaugural members:
- Charlie Finkel
- Lex Savoyat
- benny Vasquez
- Lysne Tait
If you have questions, we’d love to hear from you! We will be hosting an open town hall with all four members, and we invite both current Lansing Makers Network members and general community members to join us to share ideas and excitement for the future of LMN!
Join us July 31st at 6:30pm at the space. We’ll have some light refreshments, and get started with discussion right at 6:30!
If you can’t join us in person, join us using this Google Meet link: https://meet.google.com/rxk-wzrn-izy
501(c)(3) Status
In case you missed Lysne’s post, we are in the final stages of getting our non-profit status back!
As of July 10, 2025 the paperwork has all been filed and accepted, and we are waiting on the processing and evaluation of that paperwork. The good news is that nothing much had changed for us between when we got our status the first time and when we filed this time, so we are confident in a positive outcome. The bad news is that it can take up to 6 months for us to hear back, but as soon as we do we will share the updates!
In the meantime, the law allows us to act as a non-profit organization until we get our determination letter. This means that upon approval from the IRS, all donations between the date of our filing and the date of our determinate letter can ALSO be treated as donations to a non-profit organization. If you have questions about donations, please reach out to Lysne.
Step up to help!
LMN is a collaborative effort, and working together to make it awesome is what makes it so incredible. Do you have skills in making, fundraising, content creation, grant writing, volunteer wrangling, technology management, or anything else that you think the space might need? Let us know!
We know that the ideas will be flowing, and we need the hands to do the work just as much. Fill out the form below, and the Leadership Committee will get back to you sometime in the next few weeks to see where your skills and our needs align. We will also be looking for more ways to manage volunteer needs, so keep your eyes open for that!

A note from from your new Leadership Committee:
We are so grateful to Brian for all the blood, sweat, and energy that he has put into the Makerspace for so long, and we are hoping to see him re-join the board of directors after he has taken a well-deserved break.
Also, thanks to our incredible member community for believing in the space! We are overjoyed to be able to harness your excitement and move us into a bright future. If you ever need anything, you can talk to any one of us. For now, you the best way to share your ideas and willingness to help is through the form above, but if you want to send us a note specifically, feel free to email us at president@lansingmakersnetwork.org
