Hello, I’m planning to use a micro welder that requires pure argon gas and am considering buying a 40 cu ft tank. Would it be possible to store it in the welding area? I’m okay if others need to use it, though I don’t think there’s any TIG equipment currently that requires it — just wanted to check what the policy might be.
@AdamT is the welding area manager & the person to have this discussion with. Will this tank be left temporarily for a specific project or ongoing for your use? If others will be using it, it will need to have an SOP created before it’s available for community use.
@Lex ~ If I’ve tagged the wrong Adam, I apologize.
Ongoing most likely. I’m willing to pay a fee to store it monthly and be responsible for refilling it.
Hi Cam I’m Adam, I have no problem with a tank of that size being stored in the weld area. I would ask that you clearly mark it with your name and it’s contents(a project parking pass would work). I’d also like it if it was safely secured when not in use, I’ll take a look around the weld area and see if we have something to secure it safely and get back to you. Can’t wait to see what you’re working on!
Thanks so much, Adam! I really appreciate the quick and thoughtful response. I’ll make sure to clearly label the tank with my name, contents, and a project parking pass as suggested. I’ll also look into a proper chain or bracket for securing it safely when not in use. Thanks again for being open to this — I’m excited to get started and can’t wait to share some of the work once things are up and running!
Hi cam, I have some chains that might be useful, I plan to come and work Sat and Sun morning but I’m not sure, if I came I would put a piece of chain on the table in welding area for you, also if its urgent for you, you can get a piece from one of the white buckets with MSU sign on them,(the second one from the right) near the welding area, where my stuff are, but please take from the smaller(thiner) ones, I need the big(thick) one for my project.
Hey Siamak, I really appreciate the offer but this is resolved. Thank you for reaching out though!
