Project- Pull-out drawer for my short-throw projector

I’m working on something I’ve been meaning to do since I moved into my house. I have a short-throw laser projector and a roll-down screen as the main display in my living room. I put the screen up successfully with some help of my friends but the projector itself has been sitting on its own overturned shipping box since I unpacked it.

When the projector is in its optimal position for the screen as-installed it sits almost exactly six feet from the back wall, and there’s two feet of space behind the screen for the projector to sit in. What I’m planning to do is build a double-drawer (as in a drawer inside a drawer) with two sets of full-extension slides so I can pull the projector from inside a 24" cabinet and have it positioned 72" from the wall. It sits currently on a surface 14.5" from the floor, but that has some room to wiggle since the vertical stopping position of the screen can be changed. The projector unit is 14 and a half inches long and 18 wide.

It probably won’t be stiff enough even with overbuilt drawer slides to not act like a diving board, so I’ll probably want to put some legs for the front side on it, maybe with wheels or carpet gliders on them. I’ll probably build it out of half-inch particle board or somesuch.

This sounds like a really cool and useful project. Excited to see how it goes!
