New VCarve installed!

We got our Makerspace Account straightened out with Vectric, and now have the latest version of VCarve Pro (v. 12) installed on two of the lab computers. (The left and the right, and not in the middle. It wouldn’t install there for some unknown reason.) For the previous version, we were allowed two copies, and that may be all we get now, too.

Like the previous version, you can download and use VCarve Pro Trial at home, and do everything except generate GCode. For that final step, you need to load your design on one of the two lab computers.

However, the process has changed. Formerly you copied our makerspace ID and entered that at home. Now you need to create a Vectric account that is associated with LMN. You need to log into that account at home to use the software. Vectric needs first and last name, and your email address for the account.

And to get that account set up, we need to send you an invitation through the Vectric portal. We manage our authorized member list through the portal.

A nice improvement is that we can have a common tool library between the two computers. This is important with the automatic tool changer, because we want to keep it loaded with the “standard” tools in the same positions.

Unfortunately early experiments show the tool library isn’t available to home users. But we’re still figuring this out.

If you want to use VCarve Pro 12 at home, reply here, and we’ll send an account invitation. You don’t have to provide your email if you’d rather that stay private. We’ll look you up in the member system. You need to download and install the trial edition. When you log in with an account, it’s not time-limited.
