Our Tech Team has been hard at work and we’ve got big news to share!
Within the next couple of months we will be moving to a new member portal.
Right now you use http://members.lansingmakersnetwork.org/ to renew your membership online. On the backend, this system also tracks volunteer hours, takes payment, is used for check-in and check-outs, and more.
The new system is called HelloClub, it’s also being used by I3, the Detroit Makerspace.
It’ll do nearly everything the the old system did, with some improvements in member functionality.
An incomplete list of improvements:
- You’ll be able to setup auto-renew. This is not a requirement, just an option.
- It’ll be possible to upgrade to Full-Access mid-month (after the first 30 days)
- Groups will be able to create meetups and events, and sign up to go to them.
- It has a booking feature that we intend to use for machines that can only be used by one person at a time and take a while to complete, such as the CNC machine and Long-Arm quilter.
On the backend we are excited about its expanded financial and membership reporting, automation possibilities, and booking software. This will allow the Leadership Committee and Board to better understand how the space is used, where we need to focus our efforts, and frankly, spend a little less time the correcting odd membership issues that crop up right now.
What this means for you
- When this is ready to go, we’ll be asking everyone to move their payment methods to the new system. If you normally pay in person we’ll handle it for you.
- There will be a new place to visit when you want to renew your membership online.
- The way that you check in and out may change.
- Membership emails and notifications will be coming from a new place and will look a bit different.
- There may be a new format to badges (still working on this) but we will be importing all of the existing badges and keyfobs, so those will still work.
Stay tuned, we’ll share more information as this gets a bit closer.
And a huge THANK YOU to the tech team for all of their efforts. This is a huge project and they are making it happen.
