Hi, all!
As the new area manager for textiles, I want to reconfigure the textiles room to try to make it more usable for classes and less congested. I’ll need help from four or five people to make this happen. If you are willing and able to do any of the pre-work tasks below, let me or Lex know. If you’re willing and able to help with cleaning and moving things on August 1, let me or Lex know.
I’ve attached an image of the proposed new floorplan below.
We need to do some pre-work before we can start moving things and I’ll need some help.
Before August 1:
- Attach the cutting table top to the base. (Andy D is working on this.)
- Put 1/8" plywood on the back of the 9-cube shelf. (Andy D is working on this.)
- Put small caster wheels on the fur machine so it can be rolled under the cutting table when not in use.
- Attach a large pegboard to one long side of the cutting table to hold acrylic rulers, rotary cutters, and smaller cutting mats.
- Complete James F’s plan to make a larger ironing surface. We’ll need a staple gun, but I think everything else is there.
- Remove the wooden cabinet with doors. (I understand there was already a plan to move this elsewhere, though I can’t recall where?)
We will put up a sign asking all members to remove all personal items from the textiles room by July 31.
On August 1 I’ll need help from 4 or 5 people to:
- Completely clean the space including removing all trash, dusting the blinds, windowsills, and all surfaces, vacuuming, mopping, etc.
- Reorganize the furniture as shown in the diagram.
- Clean all the tables and chairs. Wipe down all the machines.
- Make sure each machine has its matching, color-coded bin with all its attachments.
- Make sure each table has power run to it.
- Make sure the wires from the door lock are secured (I know they run along that wall.)
- Make sure each table has a working machine and basic sewing tools (Seam ripper, thread snips, pin cushion and straight pins.)
- Organize unused machines and other tools on the built-in wall shelves and the wood shelving unit.
Other notes: We’re getting a new (used) Juki professional machine soon to replace the old one that’s not working. We’re also getting a new (used) blind hemstitch machine. The hemstitch machine will (I hope!) fit under the cutting table with the fur machine when not in use. It may also need caster wheels.
I will be out of town from July 20 through July 31, but if you have questions while I’m away, Lex has offered to answer them for me. She has my complete project plan and we’ve discussed this.
I’m really excited about these changes and I hope you are too! Please help me make this space more usable.
