You heard it here first. We are going to be changing the name of checkouts to authorization.
Reasons for this change:

It makes more sense. New members often ask whether they can take tools home with them once they are checked out. Authorization makes more sense, when you complete the training, you are authorized to use a tool. If you haven’t completed the training, you aren’t.

It is what other makerspaces call the practice. And while we aren’t necessarily associated with them, we stay in close touch, and having a shared language helps us collaborate.
Why are we doing this now?
The new website is almost ready, and we wanted to include the new language there.
