As the title says, looking for suggestions on media/material to carve for casting. The carving would be made into a mold for wax, then the wax castings would be burned out for copper, bronze, or silver casting, and then fiendishly dealt with (muuahahah) for jewelry end caps. So, what is/are your suggestion/s…
Yeah, blame it on French Toast Devil Dog…
Oh, level of detail: ~6mm hole, animorphic celtic/norse dragon’s head with surface texturing and knotwork.
In the silver casting class we used jewelers wax, and I was really impressed with it. There were a bunch of different densities and form factors that could be used for different parts in the same casting. The wax itself was carved with metal dental tools, the rotary sander, files, needles, whatever you wanted.
Some jewelers will also use 3D printed items to cast. @Arialia has sand cast rings w/ 3D printed molds her partner made. She’s cast them in both copper & sterling silver.
I would ask that bronze not be melted in the jewelry area since we don’t have proper ventilation to protect our lungs, as some bronze alloys are highly toxic to breathe when melted.
