Hi everyone, my name is Mackenzie, or just Kenzie. I have too many hobbies and interests and I’m finally getting around to hopefully utilizing the makers space, something I should’ve been doing for the past few years!
I live in the Spartan Housing Co-op and other SHC members keep telling me we have a membership with LMN through the SHC, does anyone here know how that works or what I need to do?
Also I met Adam at maple fest last weekend while he was smithing there and he told me he could teach me some blacksmithing at the makers space for free iirc. I can’t afford the classes so I was excited to hear this was an option too! Adam if you’re reading this when will you be there and when is a good time for me to show up?
Hi Mackenzie great to hear from you! I’m uncertain how the SHC membership works, but I’ll ask around.
As for your second question, yes during regular checkouts/authorizations for blacksmithing we do teach the basics and this can be done before you have an active membership with us. It does require you to fill out a membership form in person so we have an account that we can tie you to, but you do not need to pay when you make the account.
I’ll be in the space most of today(March 29th) from open to close(12pm-8pm) and can give a checkout then. If that doesn’t work, no worries I’m available to give checkouts most days.
Cool! I have somewhere to be at 2pm today and depending on how long that takes I might have time to come to the makers space before closing time today, so I’ll maybe be seeing ya later.
As for how the SHC connection works I’m still figuring that out on the SHC’s end of things for now.
I don’t have time today after all. Will you be there this thursday or friday and available to give me a checkout?
I’m free both of those days after 4. Tell me a time and I can be there. I’m only able to give a checkout on the forge and sandblaster in the ironworks area so if you’d like a checkout on the drill press, belt grinder, or bandsaw I can ping some other folk that can give checkouts on those.
