Many years back, I went to a studio furniture conference and they had a great event called ‘Slide Wars’ (it was back in the 90s…), Anyways, anyone could sign up and put in 3 to 5 slides (again, this was the 90s) and then get up and talk about their work. People showed finished pieces, pieces in progress, pictures of other work that had influenced their work, etc. I think this would be a great idea for LMN. There could be a sign up sheet/schedule on the LMN site. Perhaps 5 minutes for presentation and questions; probably need to tweak it along the way. I think it be great if there was also a pot luck aspect - or maybe a several people could sign up each time to bring food. Does LMN have a digital projector, digital scanner, slide projector and carousels (ask someone from the 90s or before…)? Maybe ask for voluntary donations like 1 or 2 dollars - just a thought there. I am interested in helping to get this off the ground. Lex’s name (Hi Lex) was mentioned as a good person to start with. Anyone else want to help or would be interested in showing and/or talking about their work?
Thanks for your consideration.

That sounds like a really great idea! Re. projectors - maybe a similar setup to last Halloween’s movie night could work (I’m not sure who set that up - @Lex @Evelyn @Jcard1415 ?)
Hi David,
I’m the person that can help with this and would love to see it get up and running!
We do currently have a digital projector and screen. I am happy to setup a website signup, and to get space set aside on the calendar.
What else do we need to get this going? Did you have a start date in mind?
Hi Lex, I don’t have a specific start date in mind, my preference would be to start in March. If there’s a way to set up a survey of our members online along with a paper and pen version at the front desk, it would help us see what dates work best. If there’s a day through the end of this week (Sunday included) that you and I could get together at LMN or by phone we could hash some basic things out to present to everybody. I will be pretty busy for the rest of today (2/11) but it’s always okay to text me. Depending on how much interest there is, it would be great to make this opportunity a biennial or quarterly event.
So, some general ‘what else is needed’ thoughts:
- Review current LMN calendar to make sure we are not conflicting with other events
- Decide if it would be open to non-members to observe or participate; perhaps they would be asked to pay a minimal admission fee like $2 to $3.
- Should food be a part of it? Not a banquet, but more than a left over bag of pretzels.
- Need to determine time frames for: each presentation/limit of how many images per person.
- What about video of each event if permission is given for just the presented images along with any audio of presentation and questions/comments from the audience?
- Where is best place to do it?
- It would be good to ask other people not to use really loud or distracting tools, etc in the area; makes it hard to hear and concentrate.
Well, that’s all the time I have this morning… But I think there’s a lot of fun to be had in putting this together - not to mention actually doing it.

Excellent. I’m pretty underwater this week with the planning of How-To Holiday, perhaps we could make time on Monday?
I’d recommend that we do this on a day that we aren’t normally open, like a Tuesday evening, so that we are avoiding most of the exciting shop noise. For location I think the meeting tables by the jewelry area make sense, with a projector at the end.
We’ll chat more and make this go!
Sounds good ! I’m working right now but will look at my schedule for next week
See you then.
