I have a line in a large format plotter if the space wants it

Hi everybody, I’m a real estate agent by trade and I have had a listing that has an inkjet plotter sitting in the basement for over a year. It’s essentially a big inkjet printer that prints on rolls of paper, 54 in wide arbitrarily long. It isn’t fully working and needs some repairs but it has the full service manual with it and apparently the owner got it to run a test page sometime before he moved out and left it there.

It’s an HP 3500CP DesignJet Color Plotter. If this is a tool that we feel we would use and wouldn’t just be taking up valuable space I’d be perfectly willing to pay my client the laughably small amount that he wants for it and hasn’t been able to get on Facebook marketplace and donate it to the network. I would also need two or three additional strong backs and a truck or van to move it, and it is located currently in Pinckney which is about an hour’s drive from Lansing.

Let me know if I’m completely off base or if it’s something we might be able to use and fix up, or if you want any additional details. It’s my listing so it’s pretty easy for me to get in there and take pictures of it or examine it if anybody wants.

Whoa, that would be cool! I have a truck and could help haul it if the crafts and/or digital fab area managers want it - @JamesFriend @leif_swanson @Evelyn

Also up to @RealCarlRaymond or @jody as they’d likely be the ones to fix it

Howdy,

I would absolutely be able to help move it and/or fix it up. It would also help me solve a TTRPG map printing conundrum. Not to mention printing big blue prints or other industrial design documents.
Let me know the deets when they are established.

Ok I’m going to let my client know I’ve found a place for it, I’ll visit the listing sometime in the next couple days and do some site recon for moving it out. Would a weekend day for the road trip to Pinckney be good for everyone? As it stands I’ll probably be holding an open house there a week from Saturday (Feb 1st) in the early afternoon, so if we can arrange for 2-3 good lifters and a truck to be there on that day I could get it moved out at the end of the open house and convoy back to Lansing with everyone, subject to safe weather. I’ll add more info to this thread as needed.

Update on this, it’s too wet and wintery right now to get it moved anyway, and we’re no closer to selling the house so we’re not under any time pressure but I’ll keep people informed.

Here’s some pictures of the machine itself. I’m in the house as I type this.

Hey Al, I’d be happy to help move it if ya need another, just tell me when and where you want to meet

Hello, resurrecting this topic because the weather has cleared up, we’re going to hold an open house at the property this coming Sunday the 9th. I figured anybody who wanted to come from Lansing out to Pinckney to help move the printer could plan to arrive around 2:30 when the open house is over. I have to be there of course for the open house but if some of you wanted to arrange a convoy to meet up at LMN with a few good strong people and at least one vehicle big enough to hold the thing. It’s about an hour from Lansing to Pinckney, so the proposed rendezvous would be at about 1:00.

At least some of the volunteers for this project are in The Minis painting group that I’m seeing at the space tonight, so we’ll talk in person and I’ll provide extra details after we’ve spoken.
