DIY Musical Instrument Makers Group

Next regular meeting: Thursday., Apr.24, 6:30 pm. We are still in the formative stage with this group–looking to give members what they want and need to advance in the craft(s) of instrument-making–so come with your ideas about moving ahead. One thing on the agenda will be scheduling. On the substantive side, the focus will be on strings, with Dave giving a run-down on his uke-building process.

This is awesome! I’d love to make some social media posts about it. Do you have a current flier or anything that I can use?

The person that ran the first open mic night would like to do it again. Is there a member I can put her in contact with to coordinate with the musical instrument group?

@davemakes !

This is still happening! Here is the recent email about it.

The May meeting will be held not on the second Sunday of the month like normal, but on the 3rd Sunday, May. 17–to avoid Mother’s Day on the second Sunday.

ALSO, new meeting time from now on will be 2pm. If this causes a problem for anyone, let me know. This will be the time for next meeting for sure, but we can consider best time for the greatest number going forward.

I will give a demo in the shop all about FRETS–methods of installing, fixing fret buzz, all that. For anyone contemplating making a fretted instrument, this session will give you a good start on the process of building a fret board “from scratch.”

At this meeting, let’s talk once again on a familiar topic for the group: What can/should the group be doing to help you start or move along with your musical instrument project?–whether that be thru discussion, some form of one-on-one mentoring, or hands-on activities in the shop.

Other than this stuff, I welcome further suggestions about the agenda for the next meeting, and–do I have a volunteer to play something to start the us off?
