I’m interested in cutting some 2x4s and some plywood to build a basic stand/enclosure for my 3D printer at home. I think I’ve gotten the design down to something that just needs a few basic cuts:
I’m probably going to need the miter saw to cut the 2x4s; I’m not sure what tool would be best to cut out the corners in the plywood.
As I understand, Tony is usually in on Thursday evenings; I mainly wanted to check and see if he’s available tonight for a checkout. I’m not planning on cutting anything tonight; I still need to finalize the design and pick out the lumber. I’m hoping to do my cutting on Saturday. I’ll likely end up assembling this at home; I’m pretty sure I this won’t fit fully assembled in my car!Edit: just read the other topic. I will try and make it on Sunday when Tony plans to be there.
Not helpful for cutting the corners out of the plywood, but if you need to cut a big plywood rectangle into smaller plywood rectangles, the panel saw is AWESOME for that.
Dan, let’s talk about your design tomorrow. Maria is right, there is usually no need to notch the corners, unless you have some specific reason for that. I’ll show you more about what I mean when we talk. It would help if you can bring your diagrams, either a digital or the dead tree (paper) version.
Based on Tony’s feedback, I’ve made some significant revisions. I’m going to effectively make the bottom shelf the main support for the entire shelf, with each of the four legs bolted to the shelf (and to all the other shelves; bolts since I want to be able to disassemble this for transport).
