I had a handmade ceramic drinking vessel called a quaich break on me over the weekend. Instead of getting rid of it, I thought I might try my hand at Kintsugi. You may have seen it before, it’s a Japanese technique where you seal cracks in pottery with lacquer and gold powder, making for a unique look (and a fixed ceramic!).
I thought a Scottish quaich repaired with Japanese Kintsugi would make very a uniquely qualified vessel for drinking Japanese Single Malts.
Regardless, I was curious if anyone had tried this technique before or had any experience with it. I was considering buying a kit online but it looks like buying the components separately is likely cheaper (though still not cheap because of the gold powder).
If no one else has tried this before, I’ll still give it a go and let you guys know how it goes.
