One of my neighbors put a 400ft hose reel out to the curb. Aside from needing new wheels it’s fine- aside from this spot where the frame is nearly rusted through. What’s the best way to repair something like this? Any options other than cutting the bad section out and welding a new piece?
Maybe bondo used in car repair?
Hm. I thought about trying the fiberglass sheets and resin filler stuff but I’m not sure if it would be strong enough to be bolted. Was thinking something like a metal sleeve? Like a pvc slip coupling, but metal??
If you can find the right diameter pipe or conduit, you could cut out the worst section, slip in your new piece, and pin/rivet/screw them together if you didn’t want to weld them
A muffler shop might be able to sell you a replacement for the bad section, or one you can use as an insert.
Determine the diameter of the tube steel the find a place that will bend tubing and then rebuild it. Some metal fab shops have tube bender, plumbing shops. As far I know the Lansing Makers Network doesn’t have a tube bender. May be someone has one in their garage.
I have a hydraulic pipe bender you could try.
Cutting and welding would be the best option
