New thing in the shop: water separator

Today I installed a water separator on the compressed air system. If you’ve used it before, you know it was kind of like having our own fog machine. This should help a lot with that. The tools will like it, and it should help a lot with the sand blaster.

The stages are auto-draining. As each cylinder accumulates enough water, it should empty through the blue hoses automatically. For now I’ve got them emptying into a bucket so we can see what’s going on, but if it all looks good, the houses can empty into the drain pan.

This should be very low maintenance. The final stage needs a new filter annually.

There’s no new procedure necessary when using the air, except that the final pressure is determined by the new gauge before the last cylinder.

It’s currently set for about 100psi. To adjust it, pull down on the knob exposing an orange stripe, turn it up or down, and push it back in to lock it.

We still need to drain the tank after use like before.

I didn’t purge all the water from the lines yet. You may still encounter some moisture, but it should all dry out shortly with some use.
