Hi, all! For those who are new, I’m Heather the Jewelry Smithing manager. It brings me joy to see that this area is growing & seeing more use by our members! If we have not yet met, please introduce yourself to me.
Below you will find important reminders for the Jewelry Smithing area;
*If you have not yet been checked out on the jewelry torches please request a checkout before using.
*The only metals we’re working w/ within the jewelry area are: Copper, sterling & fine silver, brass, bronze, gold & gold filled. Any other metals can either damage the tools &/or contaminate sterling & fine silver + gold.
*Please do not remove any items from the jewelry area to use in any other area without talking to me 1st. Thank you in advance!
*When using the buffing & polishing lathe, make sure to return the polishing wheel & compound back to their labeled container. It can be difficult to tell which compound was used, if the wheel is not put back into it’s container. Once a wheel has been used w/ one compound, it cannot be used w/ a different compound.
*Please remember to put tools & supplies back the way they were before they were moved or return them to the storage area they are stored in. Most areas are labeled to help make it easier to put things back.
*Before leaving the area:
~ Double check to see that you have turned the torches off + drained
the hoses.
~ Double check to see that the pickle pot is turned off.
~ Clean up any & all messes that are made while using the space, before you need to leave. Several examples: If you create dust when sanding, wipe it up or sweep it up. If things fall on the floor, pick them up or sweep them up. Clean up any scrap metal messes. Clean up any soldering messes that may occur. If you see a full trash bin, empty it. Etc.
~ Double check the heat/air is turned back down/up.
*What to do if something happens to any tool & you’re unsure of how to fix it: During open hours, you can tell the person working at the front desk. If it the issue occurs doing closed hours, please make a post here on the talksite so someone can take care of it as quickly as possible. No one will be shamed or scolded. You can also message me privately, if you feel more comfortable communicating that way.
If you are unsure about anything at all, please message me, @Arialia or @Jody.
Thank you for respecting our area & the people who enjoy creating in it!
