Big lathe out of service for a few days

ISSUE or REQUEST:

Affected Tool or Resource: Cincinnati lathe

Team, Group or Volunteer who usually handles this type of ISSUE or REQUEST : Carl Raymond

Details of ISSUE or REQUEST (Please be as specific as possible):
A taper pin on the leadscrew sheared through. We have a replacement on order, and it will be here later in the week. Currently the machine is apart and not usable.

Please remember that VOLUNTEERS will be helping to resolve this issue. While everyone works very hard to fix things quickly, sometimes things take time. Please consider volunteering to help keep everything working well at our space!

And many thanks to @cafwood for his help in getting the broken pin out. Not an easy feat.

Taper pins and reamer are in the top of the black tool cabinet in the machine shop. I’m not certain the taper pins we ordered will do the trick so I ordered an assortment as well that should be here Sat.

The lathe is back in service. In addition to replacing the broken pin, we fixed the slop in the run/stop clutch control lever. It engages much more cleanly now. It doesn’t move as far as it formerly did, but that extra travel was just slop.

It’s also all lubed up and running smoothly.
